The Dalai Lama: Peasant Child and Man of Compassion

His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the Dalai Lama, is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhists. As a supreme spiritual leader, he is also regarded as the Head of the State. Tenzin Gyatso took birth in a farmer's family as Lhamo Thondup. At the age of 02, he was recognized to be the rebirth of 13th Dalai Lama. Since then he was given the name "Tenzin Gyatso" (Pal, 2006, 35).

Despite of his several titles, he is most commonly known as "His Holiness the Dalai Lama" or even just "Dalai Lama". Ever since his exile in 1959 to India; he has been continuously working for his people of Tibet. He is looking for an independent Tibet, where the Tibetans could live their lives peacefully under autonomous democracy. On the path of his struggle, Dalai Lama has met 46 other leaders of the world that include Popes. He has even knocked at the UN Nations doors. Dalai Lama has become a symbol of peace in the modern human history.


George Bush: Child of Privilege and War President

The 43rd president of the United States of America, President George W. Bush was born in Connecticut, on July 6, 1946. His first career was as a fighter pilot, later, after completing his graduation he moved towards energy business. His first 'non-active' political appearance was in the election campaign of 1988; with his father former President George Bush. He was elected as Governor of Texas in 1994 and then again in 1988. He was elected president in 2000 for the first time and then again for a consecutive four year term in 2004

In the two presidential terms, President George Bush has most prominently 'fought the Global Was on Terrorism. His presidency has faced many controversies that have put question marks on America becoming the Super power of the world. "Surely there is no subject as important or as controversial as the foreign policy of George W. Bush, yet dispassionate, reasonable discourse on matters such as the war in Iraq is almost nonexistent." (Cunion, 2006. pp 341) President Bush has taken extraordinary measure to protect the homeland and create a world free from terror. On the other hand, many fingers are raised on his approaches.


Comparison

July 6th is the date when the Dalai Lama and President George Bush took birth. It seems that this is the only similarity between the two world leaders. Dalai Lama is man of peace, the other initiated one the most terrifying wars in least decade. One is a hesitant leader who considers himself as a simple monk, while the other is a proud man who claims that he don't remember if he has made any mistake. One in Dalai Lama, who set a lifetime to improve himself through his beliefs, the other who claims to have "found" God and that God wants him to be the president. Dalai Lama is the one who took exile and wondered around the world to convince people that we is working for peace in his region, while President Bush called for unity of many nations and forced war on countries without evident proofs. On comparison, Dalai Lama apparently stands above and apart from not only President George Bush, but from most of the world leaders.
