Significance of Technology to Business Strategy


The importance of Information Technology cannot be over-emphasized in any working environment. Based on this, a case study in a Pharmaceutical Company is not an exception. Before proceeding further, I'd like to define Information Technology using some scholar's definition:
Information technology is a manifestation of public and private investment in science and engineering that is enabling broad and significant changes in society.

The technical know-how of an up-to-date Information Technology can be used to ascertain the quality or quantity of the constituent used in the production.

Many observers (Druker 1999; Albert & Papp 1997; Castells 1996, Freeman, Soete, and Efendioglu 1995, Kranzberg 1989) compare the rapid development and expansion of Information Technology to the industrial revolution in terms of its potential scope and impact on society. Few other modern advances in technology have had the capacity to affect so fundamentally the way people worka, live, learn, and govern themselves. As with the industrial revolution, both the time and direction of many of the changes are difficult to predict.

Scientists and Engineers make extensive use of computer modeling and simulation and large shared databases; advances in networking facilitate global collaboration in research and product development; and Information Technology producers employ scientists and engineers, implement the results of academic research, and conduct significant amounts of applied Research and Development.

Secondly, industrialized machines such as Air Compressor, Briquetting, Centrifuges, Chilsonators, Compactors, Coating Pans, Dryers, Dryer Fluid Bed, Dust Collector, Filters, Heat Exchanger, High Shear Granulate Mixer, Material Handling, Mills, Mixers, Packaging, Pumps, Reactors, Refrigeration, Scales, Screen, Sterilizers, Tablet Presses, Tanks, Vacuum Pumps, Valves, Votators can be used for a large scale production.

These industrialized machines could be used for extraction, packaging, re-packaging of finished pharmaceutical products.

Before these finished products can be used, it has to undergo a quality control process, which will determine the right proportion of the pharmaceutical products suitable for human consumption.

In conclusion, it is a wide believe that Business Strategy is the main stay of any establishment. It motivates the sales and profit margin of the establishment (as in this case, a pharmaceutical company) that keeps the company growing. No matter what one produces, the information-age in which we are now play an important role in the Business Strategy one need to adopt in any establishment.

In conformity with the manpower and resources, pharmaceutical companies needs organic synthesis materials, which are processed by, appropriate industrialized machines for the production of its drugs.
